Exotic standards of care differ greatly per species. As there are a vast number of possible species to be kept, welfare will be managed on a case-by-case basis. Please note that some species are not able to be kept as pets (only Public Zoos and those with a license may keep these animals).

Reptiles + Amphibians

• Must have constant access to water

• Must provide constant optional access to heat lamp

• Must include appropriate flora

• Food schedule at owner’s discretion

• Must have dedicated space in house

Insects + Arachnids

• Min. 2 blocks of space per insect/arachnid

• Food schedule at owner’s discretion

• Must include appropriate flora

• Must have constant access to water

• Must have dedicated space in house

Mammals + Marsupials

• Must have constant access to water

• Must have dedicated space in house

• Enrichment items must be available at all times

• Food schedule at owner’s discretion

• Appropriate flora recommended

• Space requirements differ by size, contact DoA

Restricted Animals

These animals are not to be kept as pets without a license. If you are found with one of these animals, it will promptly be removed from your care and you will face a fine. In order to apply for a license, please contact a New Riverside DoA worker.
